Meet Our Executive Director
As a first-generation college student from a low socio-economic background, I can personally attest to the fact that education changes the trajectory of lives. I was fortunate to have dedicated educators and mentors throughout my life who helped guide and support me and didn’t allow me to “fall through the cracks.” If not for these support systems and people investing in my future, I wouldn’t be where I am today. This is what inspired the start of my 20 year career as a school counselor, and why I’m so passionate about what I do.
Some might wonder how a school counselor ended up as an Executive Director of an education foundation. To me it was simple: the mission of The San Marcos Promise spoke to my heart as a counselor. I’m still doing the same job, just on a much larger scale.
I am humbled to be in a position to help all students throughout the district dream big and achieve their goals. The San Marcos Promise supports all students through the process of career awareness, exploration and development. Through a variety of programs, resources, and opportunities, we help prepare and empower students to choose, with intention, a higher education pathway suited to their individual strengths, interests, and values. We aim to equip all students with the necessary skills to thrive in the 21st century workforce and embark on a meaningful and gratifying career.
Please join us in helping to ensure all students graduate college and career ready, prepared to thrive in the 21st century workforce. Through a recurring monthly contribution or by volunteering your time and talents, your support will allow us to change the trajectory of students’ lives and make a lasting impact on our local economy.
This scholarship support is made possible through the generosity of Toni and Lee Leichtag, of blessed memory, founders of the Leichtag Foundation. During their lives, Toni and Lee were proud members of San Diego’s North County community. Both were raised in poverty and neither graduated from college. Though they became successful in business without formal education, guided by their Jewish values, they believed that achieving an education was the pathway to a better life. It was this belief that led them to support the PACE Promise scholarships for college.
