Scholar Bio

My name is Rhea Jimenez and I am 19 years old. I am a Mission Hills High School Alumni and was involved in many memorable activities during those 4 years. For instance, I was a part of dance from my Sophomore to Senior year of High School. Dancing was the most memorable activity I’ve done in High School because I sincerely enjoyed it and made so many friends that I am still friends with now. A class that motivated me to pursue a higher education was AVID as I was a part of the program for all of my 4 years in High School. Without AVID, I would have been lost applying for colleges and figuring out want I want to do in the future after high school. Now, I am in my second year in college and I am currently attending California State University of San Marcos. I am a Psychology major with a minor in Dance and am expected to graduate in the Spring of 2021. I have faced some difficulties of learning how to adjust from high school to college in terms of school work and deadlines, but, with determination and motivation, I’ve learned how to organize myself. My family and friends definitely are my inspirations that motivates me to keep going with education because I know they will always stay by my side and keep me accountable. So far, I’ve been on the Dean’s list every semester and hope to continue achieving it.

How the San Marcos Promise Impacted You

Thanks to the San Marcos Pace Promise, they continue to help me pay off some of my college tuition and gain valuable skills needed in the workplace through community service. I deeply cherish San Marcos Pace Promise as it’s another factor that keeps me on track in school and offered me the opportunity to attend CSUSM and achieve success.

Something About You That is a Surprise

Since mid 2018, I've been focused on getting healthy and loosing weight. I took action by getting help from a physical trainer, tracking the food I eat, and exercising daily. It takes discipline to stay healthy, so I have a mindset that I am doing this for my future and it's my goal to live a healthy lifestyle. Surprisingly, I love exercising when I used to hate it before. Also, I became more energized to focus on school and feel more confident. Since I began my healthy journey, I have lost 28 pounds so far. It's not about looking good, it's about being healthy and feeling good about yourself.
